Every time you feel in God's creatures something pleasing and attractive, do not let your attention be arrested by them alone, but, passing them by, transfer your thought to God and say: "O my God, if Thy creations are so full of beauty, delight and joy, how infinitely more full of beauty, delight and joy art Thou Thyself, Creator of all!

You can’t get to joy by making everything perfect. You can only get there by seeing in every imperfection all that’s joy.

Goats and Good Food

Hi All!
I've been busy since my last post. We had a wonderful (and HOT) 4th of July weekend with my family. Thanks to the awesome family at Mason Jar Farm we were able to get away for a couple of days knowing things were in good hands. It was so good for us, and really energized me so I was ready to get back to work. It's a good thing because when I got back here the garden had grown TONS, and needed attention. That hot weather sure brings out the pests along with all that wonderful growth!

I harvested a bunch of radishes and spinach.

Today, I harvested this Chard...

...and made this Feta Chard Pie from Thy Hand Hath Provided.

Of course, I had to change it. This time it was because I didn't have all the ingredients. I used shredded Swiss instead of the feta and 2 tablespoons of grated Romano instead of the Parmesan. I also used chard and spinach in it and sun dried tomatoes. It was SO GOOD, but I can't wait to try it the way it's supposed to be.

The goats continue to do well. I'm going to be looking for a good buck to breed them to in the next few months. Hopefully then I'll be able to have them bred by November or December and have kids by April or May and milk soon after. I'm loving having the goats. One of my favorite things is putting them on pasture, watching them and listening to the contented crunching as they eat. Their favorites are dandelions and raspberry leaves. Here are a few pics.

  1. Such fat and sassy girls! (The goats, not your kids...I mean children;) Nice pictures!

  2. Looks so peaceful up north.Only a true Minnesotan would say"going up north"

  3. Your goats are so pretty! Love all the attention they seem to get from the kids and, of course, you!

My pathetic little gardening efforts are giving us salad greens, too. Radishes, lettuce, Swiss chard, spinach, scallions. I do love those summer salads!

  4. Looks yummy!
Those photos of the kids and goats in the dandelions are awesome!

  5. Hey Pioneer Ladies- Yep, the goats are pretty cute, and lots of fun. I LOVE summer pictures of kids and animals.
Mama Pea- Even so called "pathetic little gardening efforts" can be a lot of work. I'm so glad you're getting some great salads, and that you're able to get your hands in the dirt a bit. :) It just wouldn't be summer without that.
