Every time you feel in God's creatures something pleasing and attractive, do not let your attention be arrested by them alone, but, passing them by, transfer your thought to God and say: "O my God, if Thy creations are so full of beauty, delight and joy, how infinitely more full of beauty, delight and joy art Thou Thyself, Creator of all!

You can’t get to joy by making everything perfect. You can only get there by seeing in every imperfection all that’s joy.

Pioneer-ish Type Day at Tanglewoods Homeschool

This year in history my littles are studying early American history and U.S. geography. Over the last two weeks we've studied the Dutch colony at New Amsterdam (now New York) and the French colony at Detroit, as well as French pioneer/explorers who explored the Great Lakes region. The Dutch were among the first to import cattle to the New World, and made butter and wonderful cheese. The French explored the New World by birch bark canoe.

We had a wonderful hands on day to go with our history program today. We ground wheat, made bread, made butter and made this model of a birch bark canoe. We also looked at birch bark canoe images online. What fun it was! :)

  1. I wanna join your little ones in their lessons! Everything you mentioned sounded soooo interesting.

I realize a good teacher in a conventional school could present the same material but with a classroom full of too many students (many unfortunately with various discipline problems), it would be difficult to have your girls experience what they did today in your homeschooling atmosphere.

Kudos to you as teacher, Patty!

  3. :) You ladies are awesome encouragers, and you're right in that we do have some great fun. But, it's not all fun. There's plenty of pencil pushing and number crunching...and whining, complaining, sneaking away to play...
